Dr. Susan Briggs is an Attending General and Trauma Surgeon at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Assistant Professor of Surgery at Harvard Medical School, Boston, Massachusetts.

Dr. Briggs received her BS in nursing from the University of Virginia at Charlottesville in 1965; and following premedical studies at the University of San Francisco and University of California, Berkeley, received her MD from Loyola University, Stritch School of Medicine in 1974. She completed her surgical training at Massachusetts General Hospital and received her Master of Public Health (MPH) in International Health from the Harvard School of Public Health in 1998. She currently serves as Associate Director of the Trauma Service at Massachusetts General and Director of the Trauma and Disaster Institute, Harvard Medical International.

She has been active in national and international disaster work with the United States government and non-governmental agencies such as Project Hope, MAP International and the American Refugee Committee. Currently she is the Supervising Medical Officer of the NDMS Specialty Medical Teams, including the International Medical Surgical Response Team (IMSURT) and the Boston Disaster Team. She is a trauma and disaster consultant to numerous organizations, including the American College of Surgeons, Committee on Trauma.
