Misplaced concerns over girls’ access to contraceptive

DEBORAH KOTZ and Bobby Caina Calvan’s article about Plan B One-Step (“Age limit remains on birth control: FDA is overruled on emergency pill; critics cry politics,’’ December 8) includes Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius’s concerns about the medication’s safety for girls who are 11 or 12. As a pediatrician who specializes in adolescent and emergency medicine, I know that Plan B is safe for young girls and women.
