American Society of Newspaper Editors: Jesse Laventhol Prizes for Deadline reporting on the Station fire in Rhode Island
Associated Press Sports Editors: The Boston Globe was named one of the top 10 sports sections in the country. The Globe earned recognition in the daily, Sunday, and special section categories. Three Globe writers were also top-10 winners: Gordon Edes in explanatory writing for his behind-the-scenes look at the Red Sox' negotiations with Alex Rodriguez; Jackie MacMullan in explanatory writing for her look at the growth of basketball in China; and Shira Springer in breaking news for a report on Vin Baker's admission of alcohol problems.
