State auctions unclaimed property on eBay, collects more than $400,000 for general fund

A state auction of unclaimed property netted taxpayers close to $434,000, the state treasurer’s office said today. The money raised, which amounted to 52 percent more than the appraised value of the items, will go to the Commonwealth’s General Fund, according to a statement from the office of Treasurer Steve Grossman. The auctioning process began on October 29. This is the seventh time Massachusetts has auctioned off unclaimed property through eBay.
