Charitable groups pledge $3m to help needy

A collaborative effort to provide for the needy has been launched with 21 philanthropic organizations pledging over $3 million to assist the basic needs of residents throughout Massachusetts just in time for winter and the holidays. The Coordinated Winter Assistance Grant-making Effort, going into its third year of coordination, has grown to help serve residents in Massachusetts and provide assistance of food, shelter, and fuel, among other things, according to Ted McEnroe, a spokesman for the Boston Foundation.
