In order to prepare a crisp, high quality newspaper ad, you need to consider the press gain in each stage of ad building. Because of the texture of newsprint, there is a significant dot gain on press. What follows are specifications that will help compensate for press gain and variances. It is our goal to help you build and deliver an ad that reproduces well in The Boston Globe. If you have questions or would like to test prior to submitting, please call us. The Boston Globe prints to the Specifications for Newsprint Advertising Production (SNAP) standards. These specifications are designed to improve reproduction quality in the non-heat set printing process by setting coordinated standards for all processes from image preparation to printing. SNAP is intended to be used by advertisers, agencies, publishers, pre-press managers, material suppliers, and printers. Images not conforming to SNAP standards are likely to fall short of expectations when printed in The Boston Globe.
