Steve Twombly, a 29-year veteran magazine executive, has published and launched both business-to-consumer and business-to business titles. Most recently at International Data Group, he was the launch publisher of the award-winning CMO magazine for senior marketing executives. On the consumer side, Steve was publisher of Body & Soul magazine, now owned by Martha Stewart Omnimedia, from 1998-2001, and of Natural Health magazine from 2001-2003. In 1997 he launched Solutions Integrator for IDG, and he also worked at IDG from 1983-1990, publishing and launching several magazines in the emerging consumer computer marketplace. During his career Steve also worked as a publisher with Reed Business Information, and in advertising sales with McGraw-Hill.
Editor
With the 2008 editions, Design New England welcomes Gail Ravgiala as editor. Since 2001, Gail has been the home design editor for the Sunday Boston Globe Magazine, where she edited and produced the six-times-a-year Your Home issues, as well as the weekly Designing, Cooking, and real estate features. Her magazine experience began in 1990 when she was named content editor for the Globe's Special Sections department where she edited the Your Home issues as well as the Your Health, Travel, and Fashion magazines. "Our editorial goal is to bring to our readers the best in design, mixing both classic styles and the latest innovations," says Gail. "We also will introduce them to the professionals behind our splendid homes and gardens as well as present an array of features on art, antiques, artisans, furniture, fabrics, and other products for the home including the latest in home-related technology and 'green' building."
Editor at large
Jill Connors is a writer and editor with more than 16 years’ experience in shelter magazines. Throughout the 1990s, she was an editor at a number of national consumer magazines based in New York City, including This Old House (1997-1999, senior editor, editor-in-chief); American HomeStyle (1994-1997, executive editor); and Decorating Remodeling (1990-1994, managing editor). In the early 1990s, while at The New York Times Magazine Company, she helped launch Fitness and Weekend Decorator and served as editor-in-chief of the latter for two years. Since 2000, she has been a freelance writer and editor for national magazines as well as the Boston Globe Magazine. Her first book, Colorscapes: Inspiring Palettes for the Home, was published November by Bulfinch Press.
Associate editor
Molly Jane Quinn brings a passion for fine art and interiors to her position as associate editor at Design New England. Prior to joining the team at Boston Globe Media, she helped launch Las Vegas Home & Design, an award winning luxury shelter magazine, where she served as associate and interim editor. There, she developed a reputation for writing one of the most progressive fine art sections in the city. Before moving to Las Vegas, the Cape Cod native worked as a writer and researcher for FamilyFun magazine, a Disney publication. With a degree in journalism from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, she also completed a co-op position at The Boston Globe, assisting both the copy and photo desks. Recently, her writing has appeared in Fashion Boston, as well as McSweeney’s online.
Art director
Jenna Talbott, an award-winning illustrator, has eight years’ experience in publication art direction, layout and design. She comes to Boston Globe Media from CFO magazine. She had been associate art director for this monthly B2B magazine, responsible for feature design, art direction for photo shoots and illustrations, and the coordination of a redesign. Previously she worked as a designer for CIO and Stuff@night magazines. She has also worked as an editorial designer at The Boston Phoenix and as a graphic artists at Eugene Weekly. She began her career as a creative director on the agency side.
