Niche Publications Co-op
Department/Function:   Strategic Planning

Key Accountabilities:

 

1. Assist with the editorial functions.  Specifically:

  • Help with fact checking
  • Perform basic text updates to niche pubs’ web sites. And from time to time:
  • Help find products to feature in FB from local stores and boutiques; potentially photograph them.  Assist designer in finding photos from manufacturers.

2. Assist with the administration of the publications, including interacting with the audience and advertisers.  Specifically:

  • Develop and report key stats and information on publications
  • Assemble and distribute PDFs of proofs; FTP materials to the right parties
  • Assist in tracking the status of advertising materials; follow up with advertisers/agencies with specs and instructions for submission of materials
  • Monitor email inboxes and mail for pubs; route messages; respond where appropriate
  • Help respond to community and store requests
  • Process press releases and requests for coverage
  • Manage subscription process, including subscription requests, address changes, renewals and do-not-mail requests; assist in management of house and subscriber lists, and mailing of pubs
  • Manage internal mailing lists for different publications
  • Conduct ad-hoc initiatives for improvement of publications
    Route pub drops within the Globe
  • Coordinate/lead, assist at events, such as parties and advertiser forums
  • Coordinate mail components of advertising initiatives (e.g., sending media kits, targeted mailings)
  • Participate in development of email marketing campaigns
  • General office duties as necessary: Process invoices, sort & deliver mail, tend to copy/fax machines and printers

Core competencies:

 

Strong verbal and writing skills, interpersonal-team skills, organizational skills, attention to detail, self-starter, reliable, able to work on several projects simultaneously, and time management capabilities.   Prior co-op experience or strong prior employment history necessary.  Good computer skills – Excel foremost, but also Word, PowerPoint, other Globe-based software.

Experience/knowledge/
skill/technical expertise required:

 

Qualified candidates will have a strong writing ability; good working knowledge of office machines including adding machines, photocopier, and fax machines. Event planning experience helpful. Candidate should be flexible and should be willing to participate in diverse projects.
